Title: Improving methods for the identification of DNA sequences and their biological functions by analyzing the DNA structure

Abstract:
Methods for identifying DNA sequences are now a very important tool to process increasing amounts of genomic data. They allow the detection of regions of DNA that encode the genes as well as the detection of non-coded regions, which regulate the course of the expression and gene transfer.
In addition to the primary structure DNA molecule carry many other characteristics that regulate the interaction of DNA with proteins and course of expression and gene transfer. It is therefore important to develop methods for the identification of DNA regulatory regions on the basis of analysis of structural properties.
I will present the development and validation of methods for classification and alignment of DNA regions that regulate horizontal gene transfer in the process of conjugation and gene expression in bacteria. Comparison of new methods to analyse the secondary level of information encoded in the structural properties of DNA, to methods of primary sequence shows very promising results.
New algorithms for alignment, based on methods of presentation and compression of DNA sequences derived from the structural features and allowed searching of regulatory regions in organisms, which until now we have not been able to find. The results are therefore useful in medicine, especially in determining the transfer of antibiotic resistance.
