HICUP Lab amongst winners at startup competition Podjetna Primorska 2017
Project Pan map (Klen Čopič Pucihar, Bojan Simončič, Peter Simončič, Leo Gombač) won first prize at startup competition Podjetna Primorska 2017. Pan map — panoramic map of the future, is a mobile application that enables users to point their phone camera into panoramic map and reveal digital content such as weather report, icons at important landmarks that can be clicked to show image gallery, videos, opening times or simply start the navigation to the selected point of interest. HICUP Lab @ ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute, Japan)
HICUP Lab visited Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR). ATR is one of the leading research institutions in Japan and specialises in robotics and telecommunications research. Amongst others, we visited the famous Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory, one of the most famous humanoid robotics laboratory in Japan and met with humanoid robot Lucy. The trip was exceptional in the amount of out-of-the-ordinary that we were able to see in just a single day. Let the pictures tell you the full story.
HICUP Lab visits Osaka University
On 14th of October HICUP Lab visited Sato Laboratory at the Department of Systems Science and Applied Informatics, Osaka University. We were hosted by professor Daisuke Iwai and his students and engaged in informal workshop exchanging knowledge and research ideas though lab demonstrations. HICUP Lab visits University of Tokyo
On 11th of October Matjaž Kljun and Klen Čopič Pucihar visited University of Tokyo and gave talks at International Workshop on CG, AR/VR and Human Augmentation. As part of the visit Matjaž and Klen visited User Interface Research Group known (IGARASHI Lab), Cyber Interface Lab, and Living Lab Hongo. The laboratories are leaders in the field of User interface design and Human Computer interaction. The visit opened new collaboration possibilities for researchers and students through graduate student and research internships.
HICUP Lab on research visit in Japan giving lectures at Nara Institute of Science and Technology
Assistant professors Matjaž Kljun and Klen Čopič Pucihar gave lectures to masters and PhD students at the Graduate School of Information Science at Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Japan. Fully funded Joint PhD (co-tutelle) in Computer Science at University of Primorska (Slovenia) and University of St Andrews (UK) – starting Oct 2017
The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies at the University of Primorska (UP FAMNIT) is offering one fully-funded PhD scholarship for a planned Joint PhD (co-tutelle) in computer science with University of St Andrews (UK). The planned collaboration with St Andrews is dependent on finalising arrangements on the co-supervision of the Joint PhD.
We welcome applications from EU as well as International students who are enthusiastic about working as part of a multidisciplinary team focusing on applied computer science research in the following areas:
• Human-computer Interaction
• Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality
• Pervasive and Ubiquitous computing.
The selected candidate will be offered a tailored research project at UP FAMNIT. It's planned that this will be in collaboration with the University of St Andrews (UK) subject to approval. The intention is that upon the successful completion of PhD the candidate will be awarded a joint degree under a planned Joint PhD (co-tutelle) agreement.
